Cathy Ruffing is Senior Director, Teacher Professional Development Programs & Curriculum at Street Law, Inc.
Cathy brings nearly three decades of classroom experience to Street Law’s Teacher Professional Development Programs and curriculum development efforts. She has both designed and taught high school law courses and is the go-to person for high school law teachers and educators wishing to implement practical law courses at their schools. She directs our annual Supreme Court Summer Institute and travels across the country bringing high-quality PD to social studies teachers.
Cathy first connected with Street Law as a participant in the 2002 Supreme Court Summer Institute . . . and she never really left. She’s participated in a variety of programs, served as a reviewer of Street Law: A Course in Practical Law, and even received our 2007 Educator of the Year Award before officially joining the team as a colleague in 2018.
Cathy is motivated by wanting to transform the classroom lives of other teachers. She says, “If I can ignite the passion that Street Law did in me in other teachers, my impact in the classroom will be multiplied exponentially. I have seen Street Law’s methods and curriculum in practice in the classroom and have seen firsthand how transformative they can be. I hope training teachers to incorporate them will facilitate that in their classrooms as well."
Cathy has a bachelor’s degree from University of Pennsylvania and a certification in secondary school social studies from The George Washington University. Fun fact: Cathy played drums in a bagpipe band that once opened for Rod Stewart. In her spare time, she enjoys running marathons and kayaking.
