Amy Dunathan Hammer is the Chair of the Street Law Board of Directors. She is also an Assistant General Counsel in the Litigation Group at Verizon.
Amy manages multiple patent cases and works on patent policy issues, among other matters. She is active in Verizon’s pro bono program, including and especially its Street Law partnership, for which she has led its Arlington, Virginia program.
Prior to joining Verizon, Amy served as Associate Counsel and Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the Counsel to the President. In that role, she served as principal legal liaison to the Departments of Commerce and Veterans Affairs, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. She also served as counsel to the Office of the First Lady, and worked closely with several White House Offices and the Executive Residence.
Previously, Amy was in private practice at the law firm of Wiley Rein & Fielding, where she focused on litigation, regulatory, and strategic matters ranging from foreign investment reviews to ethics compliance to criminal and other investigations.
Amy began her career on Capitol Hill as a legislative aide to Sen. John H. Chafee. She subsequently served as senior staff on the Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works, and later as senior counsel on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs. She clerked for the Hon. Ricardo M. Urbina (ret.) of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Amy is a magna cum laude graduate of Brown University and of the Georgetown University Law Center.
