Since
its initial program in South Africa in the 1980's, Street Law Inc.'s
international programs have expanded to over 30 countries worldwide.
In each of our international projects, Street Law Inc. has formed
partnerships with local educators, legal practitioners and human
rights organizations to design programs, curricula and training
that will enable them to conduct their own programs. Our international
partners have benefited from Street Law's existing curricula in
law, human rights, democracy, crime prevention and conflict resolution.
Through its philosophy and programs, Street Law embraces entire
communities around the world as classrooms for effective citizenship.
Street Law, Inc.'s principal activities are:
-
Curriculum
development to educate citizens about civics, law, human rights,
and democracy.
-
Training
in the methodology and practice of participatory interactive
education to teach problem-solving and critical thinking skills,
such as small group work, role plays and simulation, community
resource persons, multi-media, and authentic assessment;
-
Education
in the substantive topics of democracy, human rights, law, community
crime, violence prevention, and conflict management and mediation,
from both an international and a U.S. perspective; and
-
Assistance
in program design and implementation.
All
of Street Law's Inc.'s programs are designed by local educators
and lawyers, and reflect each country's unique laws and culture.
Many
of these countries are part of the Open
Society Institute Street Law Network. Click
