Uganda
In Uganda, where small-scale PLE projects
have until now been undertaken by separate
groups, NGOs have come together to form "CONSLA,"
a country network aimed at promoting the
Street Law approach. The network includes
FIDA-Uganda (The Ugandan Association of Women
Lawyers), HURIPEC (the Human Rights and Peace
Centre) and LAP (The Legal Aid Project of
the Ugandan Law Society). Leadership on the
project is provided by the Legal Aid Project,
which coordinates the activities of CONSLA.
The Legal Aid Project is an agency of the
Ugandan Law Society. Through the arm of the
Uganda Law Society, the LAP conducts programs
that the law society deems will educate citizens
on their legal rights and responsibilities.
Goals of the CONSLA are:
- Pilot public legal education projects in
3 schools in Kampala.
- Develop curriculum and write training manuals
and materials.
- Train trainers in materials and participatory
methodologies.
Activities
conducted under this project include:
On Site Technical Assistance
Training of Trainers
