STREET LAW PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
- SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAM
This program has completed the writing and publishing of textbooks
and teacher's manuals in both Romanian and Russian for the 10th,
11th, and 12th grade civic education course. These books will
also be used in some college classes. A second edition of each
of these books is currently in draft form. A special teacher
manual focusing on interactive teaching methods has been written
for each of the grades as well. Copies of the 11th grade text
(350) and copies of the 12th grade text (400) along with teacher's
manuals (60) have been distributed to pilot classes. Members
of this project also serve on Ministry of Education committees
that are charged with developing civics standards and appropriate
assessments for Moldova. In addition, Street Law writers are
using their experiences to plan the curriculum for the 5th grade
and 9th grade programs.
- TEACHER TRAINING
Teacher trainers (11) have trained teachers (207) and "others"
(40 authors, administrators, and government inspectors throughout
the country) who are able to continue with implementing the
democratic approach of teaching. In fact, a special course is
being developed at the Institute of Continuing Education to
improve the teaching of teachers who teach the new subject We
and Law. Primary school teachers also attend a special course
run by the SIEDO Street Law program. In addition, pre-teacher
classes on Street Law content/methods have been held at the
University.
