Macedonia
Currently, no secondary school subjects cover
civic education. The Macedonian
Street Law
team seeks to address this. They
aim to develop
long-term human rights and democracy
awareness
through the medium of civic education
in
the classroom.
The primary objectives of the Street Law
program in Macedonia are to:
1. Publish a Street Law textbook
and teacher's
manual in both Albanian and Macedonian.
2. Train 15 teachers and produce
a manual
for this purpose.
3. Conduct training-of-trainers
seminars
and develop a manual specific
to training-of-trainers.
4. Teach more than 400 students
from 5 secondary
schools.
The methods used to implement the Street
Law program will consist of trainings
and
evaluations.
The evaluations will include questionnaires
for participating teachers and
students so
as to allow both qualitative
and quantitative
statistical analysis. Results
will be publicized
through the mass media.
Organizations involved include the Open Society
Institute National Foundation,
and the American
Bar Association Central and Eastern
European
Law Initiative (ABA CEELI). The
Street Law
team is in the process of establishing
working
relationships with other NGOs,
as well as
lobbying the Ministry of Education.
