BEST PRACTICES IN LAW-RELATED
EDUCATION
After many years of implementation and research in the field
of law-related education (LRE), certain approaches and techniques
have been shown to be effective in reaching desired ends (i.e.,
influencing young people's knowledge, skills, and attitudes).
When designing your law-school based Street Law program, Street
Law, Inc. encourages you to keep the following seven best practices
in mind:
- Focus on essential LRE knowledge and skills
- Select and present materials judiciously
- Provide a sufficient quantity of instruction
- Use hands-on, active teaching strategies
- Create repeated opportunities for students to interact with
community resource people
- Actively involve school (or site) administrators
- Create support networks for teachers
