STREET LAW PROGRAM COMPONENTS:

  • SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAM
A secondary law textbook, Living Law, (10,000 copies total) and teacher manual has been published and distributed across the country through a regional training/dissemination plan. A second book is in draft form.
  • TEACHER TRAINING
A large teacher training system is in place across Russia. Teachers and pedagogical specialists (900) attended ten seminars in St. Petersburg during 2000-2001. The project hosted a "Living Law" conference for 200 participants in December 2000, which included a training of trainers for 20 regional coordinators.
  • LAW SCHOOL CLINICS
The law school Street Law Clinic is a stable part of the clinical program at the St. Petersburg Law School. Students are placed in local schools. A year-long Living Law course is taught to St. Petersburg Law School first year students (34). Twelve other law schools also have Street Law Clinics. These law schools receive training and technical assistance from the St. Petersburg Law School and from the Open Society Institute/Street Law Network Program.
