Northern Ireland

U.S. -- N.I. Civic Ed Exchange Project Summary | N.I. & Judy Zimmer Article

In conjunction with PAS, Street Law, Inc. brought together a diverse group of NGOs, universities, law schools and other educational experts in Northern Ireland. They are working together to develop new programs to educate youth in both school and community settings in democratic principles, law, conflict resolution and human rights. These programs will empower young people in Northern Ireland, giving them the knowledge and skills needed to discuss controversial issues in a civil manner and solve conflicts without violence.

Recently, Street Law collaborated with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) to develop a training and educational manual on the Northern Ireland Bill of Rights. The manual will be used to train facilitators to elicit input from people all over the country on what should constitute a Northern Ireland Bill of Rights. Through the Northern Ireland Bill of Rights Initiative, average citizens can ensure that the special needs of Northern Ireland will be enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights.
