Legal Resource Foundation of Kenya
The lead Kenyan organization under this program is The Legal Resources Foundation, which is working on the development and implementation of a legal education program in Kenya's secondary schools entitled, "Toward Consolidation of the Foundations Schools Outreach." The Legal Resources Foundation's mission is to develop legal and human rights education resources, which are participatory in nature and which effect greater awareness of human rights among Kenyans.
Goals of the Legal Resources Foundation PLE project are
:
Strengthen established Law Clubs in secondary schools and promote the establishment of new clubs by developing a simplified guide on the context, rationale, objectives and possible structures of Law Clubs. Law clubs bring together students who are interested in increasing their knowledge of the law.
Facilitate networking and sharing of information about law clubs by developing and publishing a newsletter.
Test and strengthen LRF's capacity for developing relevant in-house publications.
In support of these goals the Legal Resources Foundation undertook the following activities:
Developed a "Law Club Booklet":
The booklet, entitled Introducing Law Related Education in Secondary Schools is a guide on forming and managing Law Clubs. Information presented in the booklet will sensitize teaches and students to the concept of and need for law related education. The booklet is being distributed to law clubs in high schools.
Law Club Newsletter:
A newsletter called The Young Voice, has been developed for distribution to law clubs each school term. The newsletter provides a forum where young people can debate and articulate their concerns on law related issues and provides a means for educating high school students on issues of "rights."
