Ms. Jane Elise Curry
January 8, 2014
Ms. Jane Elise Curry has been a member of the New Brunswick, NJ community her whole life; she was born, raised, and educated there. Ms. Curry attended Bayard Elementary School, Roosevelt and Redshaw Middle Schools, New Brunswick High School, Bennett College, and William Patterson University for graduate school.
Ms. Curry was a teacher for 39 years—educating young people is her passion. As an educator she taught language arts, math, science, and social studies to fifth graders. She especially enjoyed planning programs and activities for the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday and Black History Month.
She continues to be active in her community by serving as a mentor for young people and promoting the importance of education and civic duties—especially voting.
In fall 2013, Ms. Curry served as a civil rights "Legend" to students at McKinley Community School as part of Street Law's Closing the Gap initiative.
