Street Law / Newsroom / Senator Arlen Specter Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
by
Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa)
March 12, 2006 | Washington, DC
Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa) is one of the most powerful people in the United States Senate, and, fortunately, he is also one of the strongest supporters of teaching young people about the law. Throughout his career he has been steadfast in his commitment to improving the juvenile justice system and to improving educational opportunities for all young people. For this, Street Law and its national law-related education partners awarded Specter its Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at a national law-related education training conference held in Philadelphia, March 12 – 15. More than 100 participants from 32 states and five other countries learned how to implement powerful law-related education programs in settings ranging from classrooms to community and juvenile justice settings. The conference also featured Marilyn Roberts, deputy administrator of the federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the conference’s sponsoring agency, as well as noted juvenile justice researcher, Dr. James C. Howell.
Meanwhile, in the Washington, DC metro area, nearly 50 teachers, attorneys, law students, and police officers attended Street Law’s third annual DC area spring law-related education conference. Featured speakers included ABC News correspondent Pierre Thomas and federal judge Royce Lambert.
