Street Law, Inc. is proud to announce the recipient of its 2010 Legal Diversity Pipeline Award—DuPont Legal.
Each year, Street Law presents this award to an individual, corporate legal department, law firm, or law school for outstanding participation in one of Street Law's Diversity Pipeline Programs. Award recipients are selected based on the quality of the programming they provide, numbers of students they reach, innovative methods and approaches, and work towards growing and strengthening the program in the legal community.
DuPont Legal participates in the Street Law / ACC Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, which works to encourage young people of color to pursue legal careers by providing them with role models, career education, and hands-on experiences in the legal field.
One of the early proponents of extending legal diversity initiatives into high schools, DuPont Legal has been involved with the Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline program for more than three years. In partnership with the law firm of Young Conaway Starlgatt & Taylor, the Delaware Law Related Education Center, and Widener Law School, DuPont Legal works with students at Howard High School in Wilmington, DE.
In addition to visiting students’ classrooms to teach about various aspects of the law, and hosting students on a field trip to DuPont headquarters to participate in interactive workshops, DuPont Legal has created an innovative team mentoring project. High school students and DuPont legal professionals meet in small mentoring groups to discuss career opportunities, educational pathways, and to provide support as the high school students look to the next phase of their education. Topics have included college admissions, essay writing, financial aid, and interviewing, among others.
