Street Law / Newsroom / Law department at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. to receive Street Law's diversity award
by
January 28, 2009 | Silver Spring, MD
Street Law, Inc. is proud to announce the recipient of its 2009 Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Award—the law department at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.
Each year, Street Law presents this award to an individual or legal department at a corporation for their outstanding participation in the Street Law / ACC Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program. The program works to encourage young people of color to pursue legal careers by providing them with role models, career education, and hands-on experiences in the legal field. Award recipients are selected based on the quality of the programming they provide, numbers of students they reach, innovative methods and approaches, and work towards growing and strengthening the program in the legal community.
Members of the law department at Turner employ exciting media and entertainment-related scenarios during their classroom visits to their partner school, South Atlanta High School, and then give students a chance to be lawyers for the day during a field trip to the company’s CNN Center. During the 2008-09 school year, the company made a significant contribution to future outreach for the Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline program by creating a promotional video about the program.
The Turner Legal Department is active in many other pro bono activities in their community. It works closely with the Pro Bono Partnership and is a past recipient of their Corporation of the Year award.
