During the early 1990s, Street Law staff conducted several programs in Kenya. One was an exchange program with the U.S. in which community leaders and attorneys visited law-related programs in Washington, DC, and Denver, CO, to learn about a variety of public legal education programs.
Upon their return to Kenya, Street Law Staff worked with three NGOs - Katuo Cha Sheria, the Legal Resources Foundation, and COBEDES - to establish a variety of public legal education programs. These partnerships resulted in five private schools in Nairobi establishing civics clubs that taught students about the law.
Teams of Kenyans, Ugandans, and Tanzanians worked together to establish a network of public legal education experts in conjunction with Street Law and Street Law South Africa.
