The Arab World Center for Democracy Development & Human Rights (UniHrD), located in Amman, Jordan, works in political neutrality to offer studies, research, and training in Jordan and the surrounding region. The Center conducts training workshops and conferences to strengthen democratic values, monitor basic transformations in the field of human rights, and contribute to the introduction of a change in civil society and in patterns of social and democratic upbringing.
Islam and Democracy: Toward Effective Citizenship
The Center conducted all-day workshops and seminars in Irbed, Karak, Mafreq, Jarash, Ajlun, and Tafelah, Jordan. The workshops used the Islam & Democracy: Toward Effective Citizenship text to educate about the basic principles of a democracy and how they relate to political Islamic pillars and to discuss how Islam supports human rights and democracy. Seven Jordanian experts and scholars from various institutes and organizations presented at the workshops; all were trained by Street Law staff in the beginning of 2006.
