Street Law, Inc. conducted a training for Ghanaian civic educators from Civitas Ghana, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, the International Federation of Women Lawyers, the National Commission for Civic Education, and the Ghana Education Services.
Street Law’s partnership with Ghana resulted in the development of Everyday Law: Education Towards a Democratic Culture, a text based on Street Law, Inc.’s Democracy for All.
Using Everyday Law, Civitas Ghana members conducted workshops throughout Accra and the surrounding area. The success of these workshops generated funding for Civitas Ghana to develop and implement a project called “Combating Violence Against Women: A Focus on Men.” This highly successful program used Everyday Law to promote and defend the human rights of women to more than 10,000 men working in male dominated occupations.
In the summer of 2008, Civitas-Ghana, in conjunction with the Ghana Bar Association, successfully organized and implemented a one-day training workshop at the Ghana School of Law. The training prepared volunteer law students, teachers, and educators from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice to implement the Legal Education (Everyday Law) project for youth and students’ project in Ghana.
