Hinton J. Lucas, Jr. is Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for DuPont.  Hinton has been with DuPont for over 35 years in a number of different areas of responsibility, including Legal, Operations, Technical Marketing, Marketing, Governmental Affairs, and as Director of Personnel and Labor Relations in Human Resources.

As a member of DuPont Legal for over 30 years, Hinton, in his current position, is responsible for all legal aspects for DuPont in the areas of labor, employment, benefits, immigration, sourcing & logistics, and real estate.  In addition, as Chief Administration Counsel, Hinton is responsible for DuPont Legal’s organizations focused on information technology, administrative and litigation services, and finance/budgeting.  He was named to his current position in July 2008.

Hinton has a long and distinguished record of community and external service.  He serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Blood Bank of Delmarva, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, and the Delaware Business Roundtable.  He is a member of the Board of Managers for A. I. duPont Hospital for Children and is also a Trustee of the Christiana Care Health System.  Hinton most recently was appointed a Special Trustee of Delaware Technical & Community College’s Educational Foundation.  In addition, he is also a Board member of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and an active member of the General Counsel Roundtable, the American Corporate Counsel Association, and the American Bar Association. 

Hinton is the Management Champion for DuPont Legal’s Pro Bono program which includes Delaware agencies and Delaware Court interactions.  He also is the sponsor of the DuPont Pipeline Project, a program that develops overall skills and interest in the legal profession in middle and high school students from the Wilmington, Del., area.  He is also the Management Champion for the DuPont Street Law Program. 

Hinton has been a repeat guest speaker on the national front in the areas of labor and employment law issues, as well as corporate legal department management and costs.  On the topic and related issues of diversity in the legal profession, Hinton has been a speaker, presenter and change agent on the national front.

A Call to Action Canada” named an award after Hinton in January 2010 for his leadership in improving the involvement of women and minorities in the legal profession.  The Hinton J. Lucas International Award is given each year to in-house attorneys who demonstrate sustained commitment to improve the hiring, retention and promotion of women and minority attorneys.

He is a graduate of Hampton Institute (University). He received a Masters in business from Central Michigan University and a J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law.
