Civic & Law-Related Education
According to the Law-Related Education Act of 1978, law-related education is “education to equip nonlawyers with the knowledge and skills pertaining to the law, the legal process, and the legal system, and fundamental principles and values on which these are based.”
Street Law’s civics and LRE programs offer curriculum designed around these principles, training in these methods, and program design to develop educated, active citizens—both in the U.S. and abroad.
Law-related education achieves the following:
- increases knowledge
- develops analysis, critical thinking, and debate skills
- reduces juvenile delinquency and violence
- increases participation in school and extracurricular activities
- inspires adult participation in community and civic activities
