U.S. Programs

Street Law programs teach practical legal information, develop critical life skills, and provide opportunities for positive interaction with the community. The programs below are currently active in the United States and the program descriptions provide you with background information, related resources, and recommended publications. 

Should you need assistance in implementing a program in your organization, corporation, school district, law school, or law firm, Street Law is available to answer your questions and/or provide professional development, training, and technical assistance.

Awards Dinner

Each April, Street Law, Inc. holds its Annual Awards Dinner in Washington, DC. The event brings together an outstanding group of leaders from the fields of law, education, business, and civic affairs for an elegant evening honoring those who have contributed greatly to the educational mission of Street Law. Breakfast with a Legend program

Street Law s Breakfast with a Legend program is a rewarding way for legal organizations of all sizes to give back to their communities by empowering young people through law-related education. In a series of classroom visits, participating attorneys, paralegals, and Legends local leaders from law-related professions who have contributed positively to their communities teach fifth and sixth graders about rules and law and share their life s experiences and connections to the students communities over breakfast. Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program

The Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program partners corporate legal departments with nearby, diverse high school law classes in an effort to engage the students, teach them more about civil law, and encourage them to consider careers in the legal profession. Educating to Protect Intellectual Property

Street Law's intellectual property initiative educates young people about the role and importance of intellectual property in our society and the laws and policies in place to protect both the property and the citizens who use it. Read more

Juvenile Justice

Street Law's juvenile justice program provides practical assistance to people teaching about law and public policy to students in the juvenile justice system. The manual is also a valuable supplement to existing law-related education, citizenship, or civics programs. Read more

Law Firm Diversity Pipeline Program

A partnership between Street Law and NALP - the Association for Legal Career Professionals, this program partners law firms with diverse groups of high school students. The goal is to teach the students about the law and legal careers, encourage them to pursue legal careers, and offer support in that pursuit. Law School Diversity Pipeline Program

Street Law, Inc. and the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) have developed an initiative to address the need for diversity within the law school applicant pool and legal profession at large. Ten law schools with active Street Law programs are currently participating in the initiative. These sites have enhanced their practical legal education programs to include diversity pipeline components to encourage young people of color to pursue legal careers. Read more

Parents and the Law

The Parents and the Law program and curriculum are designed to help young parents learn practical legal information and the skills to use that information to strengthen their families and prevent child abuse and neglect. Read more

Save Our Streets

Save Our Streets is an education program for 13-17 year olds charged with weapons offenses. The program focuses on addressing public policy issues involving juvenile weapon possession and explores the workings of the juvenile justice system. Read more

School Resource Officers

Street Law for School Resource Officers is an interactive program designed to improve communications and relations between the police and young people. The curriculum prepares school resource officers to teach legal topics in the classroom. Read more

Supreme Court Seminar for Atlanta Teachers

A professional development opportunity for Atlanta area teachers, the Seminar is modeled on the highly successful Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers and is designed to expand and strengthen instruction about the history, operation, and cases of the Supreme Court of the United States. Supreme Court Seminar for Baltimore Teachers

A professional development opportunity for social studies teachers, the Baltimore Supreme Court Seminar is funded by the Baltimore City Public School System. The Seminar is modeled on the highly successful Supreme Court Summer Institute and is designed to expand and strengthen instruction about the history, operation, and cases of the U.S. Supreme Court. A professional development opportunity for New York City metropolitan area teachers, the Seminar is modeled on the highly successful Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers and is designed to expand and strengthen instruction about the history, operation, and cases of the Supreme Court of the United States. Supreme Court Seminar for St. Louis Area Teachers

A professional development opportunity for St. Louis area teachers, the Seminar is modeled on the highly successful Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers and is designed to expand and strengthen instruction about the history, operation, and cases of the Supreme Court of the United States. Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers

Since it began in 1995, the Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers has brought together over 800 teachers from across the country to convene in Washington, D.C., for six days of educational activities related to teaching about the U.S. Supreme Court. The Institute is co-sponsored by the Supreme Court Historical Society. Read more

Youth Act!® Program

The Youth Act! program includes curriculum, training, and practical assistance to help young people develop the leadership and vision to advocate for meaningful change in their communities. Typically delivered through community-based youth programs or infused into social studies, civics and health classes, this program harnesses diverse learning styles and abilities laying the foundation for young citizens to make a difference throughout their lives. Youth in Transition

Street Law for Youth in Transition works with professionals in foster care, transitional and independent living programs, and other social service providers to create practical legal education programs for vulnerable youth. Read more
