Breakfast with a Legend

Street Law’s Breakfast with a Legend™ program is a rewarding way for legal organizations of all sizes to give back to their communities by empowering young people through law-related education.

In a series of classroom visits, participating attorneys, paralegals, and Legends — local leaders from law-related professions who have contributed positively to their communities — teach fifth and sixth graders about rules and law and share their life’s experiences and connections to the students’ communities over breakfast.

The program’s goal is simple: to teach fifth and sixth graders about the law by connecting them with the wisdom and experience of Legends—local leaders from law-related professions who have contributed positively to their communities

In a series of classroom visits, volunteer Legends, as well as attorneys and paralegals, teach students about the law and share their experiences over breakfast.

Street Law’s Breakfast with a Legend™ program began in 2007, and was piloted for two years in Washington, DC. More than 600 children have participated in the Legends program in DC since its inception.

Training

Street Law, Inc. provides training for volunteers and classroom teachers. The training – 60-75 minutes in length and conducted via telephone – includes a program overview, a run-through of the lessons, and information and advice about working with fifth and sixth graders.

Technical assistance

Street Law, Inc. provides limited phone and e-mail assistance to program coordinators.
