Awards and Accolades

  • 1987  Lee Arbetman received the Isidore Starr award from the American Bar Association.
  • 1988  Street Law, Inc. was honored by the Foundation for the Improvement of Justice for its national effort to simplify the law and improve the justice system.
  • 1992  Bebs Chorak and Street Law, Inc. received an award from the Juvenile Justice Trainers Association for outstanding contributions to the field of juvenile justice training.
  • 2000  Alexandra Ashbrook, former senior program director, and Street Law, Inc. received a HUD Best Practices Award and a Montgomery County (MD) Partnership Award for the fair housing initiative.
  • 2001  Street Law, Inc. received a national award from the Civic Mind for its outstanding programs.
  • 2002  Street Law, Inc. received a presidential citation from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).
  • 2003  Street Law, Inc.'s executive director, Ed O'Brien, was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree from the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa, for his exceptional contributions to South Africa in the fields of human rights, democracy education, and international training of black lawyers.
