Street Law, Inc.

Over 40 years of educating about law, democracy, and human rights

Status: Inactive

Street Law staff developed a network of Nigerian community leaders who participated in a study tour to the United States in an effort to develop public legal education programs for their NGOs and/or constituencies.

Street Law: Housing, Torts, and Consumer Law

As a result, Civitas-Nigeria, a Port Harcourt based NGO, helped establish a Street Law exchange program for law professors and deans in three law schools. Participants in this program returned to their respective schools to establish a variation of our law school model in three schools.

The Legal Research and Resource Development Centre, based in Lagos, wrote and distributed a series of texts reflecting Nigerian law and culture that were adapted from Street Law: A Course in Practical Law. The texts covered the subjects of criminal law, juvenile justics, family law, housing law, torts, and consumer law.
