Partners Czech is an nongovernmental organization (NGO) founded in 1992 in cooperation with Partners for Democratic Change—a U.S. nonprofit working to support the development of civic society and democracy in Central and Eastern European countries.Since its founding, Partners Czech has been active in the areas of education and training. It organizes a number of training programs for the nonprofit sector, government institutions, private firms, and schools of all levels. It collaborates with the mass media and helps to implement community projects of regional and local impact.
Partners Czech participated in the Ford Foundation’s Street Law in Central Europe and Russia: Building a Network program beginning in 1997. Under this program they developed law school-based programs at three law schools.
In 1998, Partners Czech joined the Open Society Institute/Street Law Network Program and published a manual of Street Law lessons—Street Law: Pravo pro kazdy den (Law for Every One)— for use in secondary schools and trained teachers around the country in how to implement the curriculum.
Partners Czech also developed a state-wide police program that provided new municipal police officers with Street Law lessons and implementation training.
Currently, the NGO is partnering with the Czech Probation and Mediation Service to implement the Probation and Rehabilitation Programme—a restorative and probation program for youth referred by the courts that uses Street Law lessons and methodology.
Partners Czech also participates in Street Law’s Deliberating in a Democracy program and coordinates the participation of eleven schools across the Czech Republic. Visit the Czech Republic section of the Deliberating in a Democracy web site to learn more.
