As part of the Open Society Institute/Street Law Network Program and under the direction of Dr. Agnes Kövér, a law school-based Street Law program began at ELTE University in 2000. Dr. Kövér used Street Law methodology and controversial issues materials to train participating law students and teachers. Due to the clinic’s success, the Ministry of Education began to support the teacher training for participating teachers, and the Hungarian Bar Association became involved by providing lawyers to assist teachers in areas of the country where there were no law schools nearby. The Street Law clinic continues to be active at ELTE today.
