Professor Laura Dym Cohen first taught Street Law while a law student at the University of San Francisco School of Law.  After practicing dependency law in Los Angeles for many years, she became director of the Street Law Clinic—a clinical program she created and implemented at Southwestern Law School.  Professor Cohen's innovative law school-based program trains law students to teach youth aging out of the foster care system about their legal rights and responsibilities.  She is helping Street Law, Inc. bring this initiative to scale nationally.  Laura is also working with Street Law's Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program.  She has worked with the Southern California chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and with Safeco's lawyers in Long Beach to implement Street Law's pipeline programming.

In the spring of 2007, Professor Cohen was named Street Law's Educator of the Year.  She has completed ongoing trainings in Mediation, Juvenile and Family Law; Group Home Licensing; and the Street Law Program. She earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1988 and her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1992.
