Street Law, Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society are proud to announce the launch of a new and improved LandmarkCases.org.
LandmarkCases.org was developed in 2002 to provide teachers with resources and activities to support the teaching of 17 landmark Supreme Court cases. The activities are both practical and participatory and utilize proven teaching strategies such as scored discussion, political cartoon analysis, moot courts, and continuums.
The new, improved version of the site includes summaries of every decision, differentiated instruction on some activities, and a password-protected Teachers Only section that includes teaching tips and answers. The entire site has been re-designed and upgraded to improve navigability.
The materials for each case include the following components:
- Background — Background summaries, student questions, and key vocabulary terms at three different reading levels; links to relevant legal concepts; a diagram of how the case moved through the court system; and other useful case-specific background information
- Teaching — Multiple teaching activities for classroom use, links to the teaching strategies used in the activities, and tips for planning your classroom time
- Decision — Key excerpts from the opinions and student questions, a summary of the decision, and links to the full text of the decision
- Resources — Links to articles and activities developed by others and recommended by Street Law, Inc.
Brad Faulhaber, a high school teacher in Montana, stresses the importance of LandmarkCases.org in his classroom: “The web site has become an invaluable resource for me in teaching about complex issues and court cases in an easy to understand manner.” Join Brad and discover the new LandmarkCases.org today!
