New community service opportunity for legal organizations

Street Law’s Breakfast with a Legend™ program is a rewarding way for legal organizations of all sizes to give back to their communities by empowering young people through law-related education.

In a series of classroom visits, participating attorneys, paralegals, and Legends — local leaders from law-related professions who have contributed positively to their communities — teach fifth and sixth graders about rules and law and share their life’s experiences and connections to the students’ communities over breakfast.

Street Law began the program in 2007.  It was piloted for two years in Washington, DC, during which 20 Legends, over 50 lawyer volunteers, 28 classes, 8 schools, and more than 500 children participated.

This fall, Street Law redesigned the program so that legal organizations — such as law firms, bar associations, government agencies, and legal departments — can implement the program in local schools.  For a modest fee, participating organizations get access to everything they need to start a Breakfast with a Legend™ program, including training and technical assistance from Street Law, Inc.

This unique opportunity is not only altruistic, but fun and beneficial for all.  To learn more, please explore www.streetlaw.org/legends for detailed information about all aspects of the program.

"It was an honor to serve such lovely young men and women and encourage them to be our legends of tomorrow."
- Judge Vanessa L. Hall, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
