Street Law trains Montgomery County law teachers

June 25, 2009 Street Law, Inc. recently partnered with the Montgomery County (MD) Bar Foundation to conduct a professional development institute for 25 of the county’s high school law teachers. The training emphasized the use of law-related education best practices; resource people—especially Montgomery County attorneys; interactive teaching strategies such as case studies, deliberations, and mock hearings; and new media and online resources. Cleveland teacher is Street Law’s 2009 Educator of the Year

April 15, 2009 Street Law is proud to announce Lori Urodgy Eiler as the recipient of the 2009 Educator of the Year Award. Ms. Eiler is a social studies teacher at Shaw High School Leadership Academy in East Cleveland, Ohio, where she has been teaching for three decades in one of Street Law’s oldest and most enduring programs. Egyptian students discuss and debate issues in senate simulation

April 1, 2009 The Model American Congress, which Street Law is coordinating with funding from the U.S. Department of State, brings 100 Egyptian students together to simulate the U.S. Senate over four days. Read more

Eighth edition of the Street Law text now available!

March 10, 2009 The eighth edition of Street Law, Inc.’s flagship text, Street Law: A Course in Practical Law is now available. For the first time, Street Law will have a separate chapter on immigration law and policy, and new content has been added addressing the most current law-related public issues: terrorism, technology, and recent Supreme Court decisions. Update on inaugural year of NALP/Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Program

February 26, 2009 Five law firms will be holding the culminating events in their NALP/Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Programs this spring. The inaugural year law firms—Kirkland & Ellis LLP (San Francisco), Troutman Sanders LLP (Atlanta), Wachtell Rosen Lipton & Katz (New York), Hunton & Williams (Richmond), and Holland & Knight (Washington, DC)—will all hold one-day conferences for diverse groups of participating high school students in April and May. Deliberating in a Democracy program updates

February 12, 2009 Last week Street Law hosted teachers from Romania as part of the Deliberating in a Democracy (DID) project. A workshop was held January 23–25, 2009, in Myrtle Beach, SC, to train 30 area teachers and social studies supervisors to use deliberation in their classrooms. Read more

January 28, 2009 Each year, Street Law presents this award to an individual or legal department at a corporation for their outstanding participation in the Street Law / ACC Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, which works to encourage young people of color to pursue legal careers by providing them with role models, career education, and hands-on experiences in the legal field. Third year of Breakfast with a Legend begins in the D.C. Public Schools

January 14, 2009 Street Law, Inc. is proud to announce the launch of the third year of its Breakfast with a Legend program. Beginning in January, 18 classes at seven D.C. public schools will participate in the three-month-long program that educates elementary and middle school students about the law through a series of visits with local Legends.
